As in the book by Herman Hesse. One of the things that led me to Buddhism. Was it Duska who said it was for teenagers?
Siddharta ("one who has achieved his aim'') is one of the names given to the Buddha. The Buddha lived in the 4th century BC, this particular name was given to him long after his death. Gautama was his clan name; Sakyamuni was his tribal name. They were not within the Brahmanical tradition, nor were they a monarchy, which means he was probably well off but not actually a prince. He was undoubtedly young, & not married (despite stories that he left his wife and child). Joined other wandering holy men (an even more ancient tradition) and after his enlightenment continued teaching for 45yrs. No written sources until 1st century BC, hence hundreds of years to embellish and vary his life story!
