I’m a gadget geek, but even I have been struggling to understand the mysteries of television cables. I managed to work out that audio can go digitally by coax or optical, but the HDMI thing is really complicated and noone seems to want to make life easier, even the people selling the things.
So it appears that there are a range of HDMI types, not necessarily compatible with each other. The newest, 1.4, is the official 3D cable but it sounds as if some kit (hopefully my own Sony stuff) can do 3D just fine through the older 1.3 cables.
I was really tempted to go for the 3D TV, but I’ve decided to let it go, save on the cash and by sticking with Sony I should be able to do without 1 remote. It’s already tricky enough having to turn the sound and TV picture on/off separately (you should have seen Reuben’s face when the sound kept going with the TV off)
